Jennifer and her father’s rose ‘White Mountains’.
Recently the president of our local rose club called and said that he got a call from a woman who was in frail health who needed help digging out a rose that her father hybridized. He asked if we could take cuttings and the agreement was set. The rose is ‘White Mountain’ that was developed at the University of New Hampshire and was registered in 1958 by Edward B. Risley, professor of horticulture at UNH 1948-1959.
Background: E. B. Risley (1922-2005) bred roses for cold hardiness. ‘White Mountains’ flowers on the previous year’s canes. It is disease resistant. Parentage: Skinner’s Rambler x Skinner’s Rambler. That rose was donated by Dr. Frank L. Skinner, Dropmore, Manitoba.
Fortunately the soil was soft.
